Dr. Smith is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) and has been practicing psychotherapy for over 21 years. He provides therapeutic services to Individuals, Couples, Families and Groups and offers treatment for a diverse range of conditions. His practice is located in Vista, California. Dr. Smith developed a Strategic approach toward counseling that entails a thorough patient history, clinical observation, diagnostic brain imaging, the use of psychological technologies, such as the emWave Personal Stress Reliever, the MRS2000 Magnetic Resonance Stimulation system and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist patients in achieving their life goals.
He specializes in the area of Performance Enhancement strategies for athletes, business professionals, members of the U.S. Military and other performers. Additionally he incorporates the use of Brain imaging technology in the treatment of Substance Abuse, High-Risk Behaviors & Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Additionally, Jeffrey enjoys working with teams and organizations by helping them build or rebuild connection, trust and camaraderie.
Dr. Smith also conducts training sessions, seminars and public speaking for various groups, and organizations interested in life-long wellness. Concurrently, Jeffrey leads the Strategic Recovery Institute (SRI) www.strategicrecoveryinstitute.com which is a non-profit organization working to resolve the pandemic problem of chronic homelessness. SRI is committed to developing a sustainable future and has robust plans to design and market clean-tech energy systems that will provide independence from foreign oil and the energy industry. SRI is actively developing goods and services to sustain the way we generate energy, produce water, grow food, drive vehicles and approach wellness.
Jeffrey served his country with 21 years of honorable and dedicated service in the U.S. Marine Corps. He received extensive training in hand-to-hand combat, survival skills and small arms tactics as an infantryman and scout sniper. Following the completion of his undergraduate work and receiving a regular commission, he trained as a bombardier / navigator in the A-6 Intruder attack jet and later transitioned to the F/A-18 Hornet - a modern day, fourth generation jet fighter. Following his military service, he worked for the L-3 Communications Corporation as a senior consultant, working with senior military leaders from the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. In that capacity, he provided consultation to facilitators and modeling & simulation experts who created synthetic wargames for the major military commands in the South West region of the U.S.
EDUCATION
Jeffrey holds an Associate’s Degree in General Studies, a Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Science, a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from National University, in San Diego, California and a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Ryokan College in Los Angeles, California. He has previously taught psychology courses at Park College, St. Louis, Missouri.
He is a member of the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS), California Association of Marriage & Family Therapist (CAMFT), California Board of Psychology (BoP), California Psychological Association (CPA), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA), Southern California Off-Road Racing Association (SCORE), National Off-Road Racing Association (NOORA), Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and the Fellowship of American Marriage Ministries.
FAMILY
Jeff is an avid fitness and nutrition expert and regularly engages in extreme sports activities for healthy recreation. He resides in in Oceanside, California where he is active with his family of 4 children and one grandchild
